Anike Foundation Helps Child Survival Aid Ghana Renovate School
Cracked classroom floors, broken windows and damaged doors can make school uncomfortable and even unsafe. At Mafi-Kpeyibor District Assembly (D/A) Basic School in Ghana, these problems had become part of daily life, making it harder for students to learn.
With help from Anike Foundation, Child Survival Aid Ghana (CSAG) developed a proposal to improve the school and give students a safer, brighter place to learn. Funding from the Soest Third World Group Foundation, along with a contribution from CSAG, helped turn those plans into action.
Before Renovation
Creating a Better Place to Learn
The Mafi-Kpeyibor D/A Basic School project focused on some of the school’s most pressing needs. Workers first removed the classroom flooring and replaced it with new cement. This eliminated uneven areas that could create tripping hazards and made the classrooms feel cleaner and more comfortable.
The school’s windows and doors were also removed and replaced. There are now new window blocks, allowing more natural light and airflow into the classrooms, and sturdy metal doors that provide better security.
Additionally, the entire school building was repainted, creating brighter classrooms.
Together, these changes transformed learning spaces that had become worn down over time into classrooms where students and teachers can feel more comfortable throughout the school day.
One student summed up the difference simply: “I am happy because our classroom is now clean and we can see properly.”
After Renovation
Future Potential
The School Management Committee plans to oversee regular inspections and minor repairs to help protect those improvements over time. Other potential plans include planting trees around the grounds to provide additional shade.
Projects like this show how improving education does not always begin with something complicated. Sometimes it begins with a solid classroom floor, a secure door or enough light to see the lesson in front of you.
