Anike Foundation welcomes individuals or organizations who want to join our effort to develop education in Africa.

Please note: Volunteer programs in Africa are not available through Anike Foundation itself. However, our Ambassador in Africa program offers the opportunity for volunteering with one of our partnering organizations in Africa.

  • Virtual. You can volunteer with us from anywhere in the world as long as you have a reliable internet connection.

Who can volunteer?

Anyone 18 years or older can register to volunteer. Special consideration may be made for volunteers aged between 16-18 years.

We have a 14-year history of operating with a diverse international volunteer community We are committed to ensuring individuals are treated consistently and equitably irrespective of their gender, ethnicity, political, religious or philosophical allegiance, physical ability, status, age or sexual orientation.

 

Volunteer Applicant FAQs

About Anike Foundation 

  • No. Anike Foundation is a 100% volunteer-based organization and does not have paid employees. 

  • Anike Foundation welcomes volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds and experience levels, provided they can contribute meaningfully to our mission. 

    Our volunteers include: 

    • Students pursuing college degrees  

    • Recent graduates seeking experience while searching for employment  

    • Working professionals who volunteer alongside their careers  

    • Retirees and other experienced professionals  

    Volunteer tenure varies considerably. Some volunteers serve for only a few months, while others remain active for several years. A small number have served with Anike Foundation for more than a decade. 

Compensation, Benefits, and Advancement 

  • No. As a small, fully volunteer-run organization with limited resources, Anike Foundation does not offer stipends, compensation, or financial support for volunteer positions. 

  • Upon completion of at least two months of satisfactory volunteer service, volunteers may receive one of the following: 

    • LinkedIn recommendation  

    • Testimonial  

    • Spotlight in an Anike newsletter  

    • Professional reference  

  • Yes. 

    Leadership positions are typically filled by volunteers who have demonstrated long-term commitment, significant contributions, and strong performance over an extended period. Many members of our leadership team began as volunteers and gradually assumed greater responsibilities as their experience with the organization grew. 

  • No. Anike Foundation is a 100% volunteer-run organization and currently has no plans to create paid positions. 

    Individuals seeking paid employment may wish to explore opportunities with other organizations. However, those who are interested in contributing to Anike Foundation's mission through volunteer service are welcome to apply. 

Eligibility and Qualifications 

  • In some cases, yes. While many positions prefer candidates who have or are pursuing a college degree, the President may waive this requirement at his discretion after reviewing an applicant's qualifications. 

  • Possibly. 

    High school students may be considered on a case-by-case basis at the President's discretion. Applicants are evaluated based on their overall qualifications, maturity, and ability to perform the responsibilities of the role. 

Application and Enlistment Process 

  • No. All volunteer applicants must complete Anike Foundation's online volunteer application regardless of their experience or qualifications. 

  • The process generally includes: 

    1. Submit a volunteer application.  

    2. Sign the NDA/IP agreement (if selected).

    3. Complete any required preparatory materials.

    4. Take any required quiz (for positions that require one).

    5. Participate in any required interview.  

    6. Complete orientation.  

    7. Receive assignments from your supervisor.  

  • Generally, no. Questions should be raised before taking the quiz. Feedback on missed questions is typically provided only after an applicant successfully passes the quiz. 

  • Not immediately. 

    According to Anike Foundation procedures: 

    • Above 80%: Pass  

    • 60%–80%: Marginal fail (second chance may be offered)  

    • Below 60%: Fail  

    Applicants are generally not provided with their exact score or incorrect responses until they have successfully passed. 

Working as an Anike Volunteer 

  • Orientation occurs after all enlistment requirements have been completed and you have been accepted into the volunteer role. 

  • Yes. Orientation provides volunteers with the information, tools, and procedures necessary to perform their assigned responsibilities. 

  • Your supervisor will be identified during onboarding and orientation. For many administrative positions, the President serves as the primary supervisor. 

  • Responsibilities vary depending on the volunteer's assigned role, projects, and tasks. 

    • Gmail  

    • Google Drive  

    • Google Sheets  

    • Other related Google applications  

  • There is no mandatory minimum number of hours. Tasks are generally assigned based on each volunteer's availability and capacity. 

  • To help ensure continuity and successful completion of projects, we generally ask volunteers to commit to a minimum service period of three to six months. However, the expected commitment may vary depending on the specific volunteer role, project requirements, and individual circumstances. 

    If you are uncertain whether you can meet the expected commitment for a particular role, please discuss your availability with us during the application process. 

  • We understand that personal, academic, and professional commitments can change over time. 

    If you need to take a temporary leave of absence or resign from your volunteer position, please notify your supervisor by email as far in advance as reasonably possible, preferably at least two weeks beforehand. Advance notice helps us reassign responsibilities and ensure a smooth transition of any ongoing work. 

    We appreciate volunteers keeping their supervisors informed of any changes that may affect their availability or ability to complete assigned tasks. 

  • No. There are no regularly scheduled team meetings. 

  • Most communication is conducted through email. 

  • Generally, no. Anike Foundation conducts most volunteer communications through email because it is typically the most efficient method for both applicants and volunteers. 

  • No. Volunteers are expected to use their own equipment. 

  • Yes. Volunteers may use a separate email address if they wish. In many cases, volunteers may also be issued an official Anike Foundation email address after onboarding. 

Confidentiality, Intellectual Property, and Volunteer Work 

  • Anike Foundation shares sensitive information with volunteers as part of their work. The NDA/IP agreement protects confidential information and intellectual property belonging to the organization. 

  • Depending on your role, this may include: 

    • Contact information of Constituent Organizations and partners  

    • Internal organizational information  

    • Volunteer data  

    • Photos and videos belonging to Anike Foundation and its partners  

    • Other proprietary information  

  • No. The agreement applies only to materials, information, and intellectual property created for or obtained through Anike Foundation. It does not restrict independent work performed for other organizations using non-Anike resources. 

  • Your confidentiality obligations continue after your volunteer service ends. You may not disclose, reproduce, distribute, or use confidential Anike information without authorization. 

  • Volunteer photos are stored in a secure location. Access is restricted to authorized administrative team members who have signed NDA/IP agreements. 

  • Yes. 

    Volunteers may include non-confidential experience, responsibilities, accomplishments, and volunteer positions with Anike Foundation on their resumes, LinkedIn profiles, and professional portfolios. 

  • You may describe your contributions and include links to published work on Anike Foundation platforms. 

    However, you may not reproduce, copy, redistribute, or publish the actual content outside of Anike platforms without written authorization. 

  • Yes. 

    You may include links to: 

    • Anike Foundation website pages  

    • Anike Foundation YouTube videos  

    • Other authorized Anike Foundation publications  in your portfolio, resume, website, or social media profiles. 

  • Not without authorization. 

    You may share links to published content, but you may not distribute complete work products to third parties without written permission from Anike Foundation. 

  • Work created as part of your volunteer duties is the intellectual property of Anike Foundation and is copyrighted by Anike Foundation. 

  • Not necessarily. 

    Many Anike Foundation projects involve contributions from multiple volunteers and are therefore collectively authored by the organization. Individual contributors may be acknowledged in certain publications and special projects, but Anike Foundation does not generally place individual names on every work product. 

  • Yes. 

    Volunteers may identify their contributions and roles on specific projects, provided they do not reproduce the content outside of Anike platforms without authorization. 

Position-Specific and Organizational Questions 

  • The duties of the Photo Organizer role are described in the position posting. Generally, partner organization photos and related materials are stored on Google Drive, where classification, captioning, and recordkeeping activities are performed. 

  • Anike Foundation supports partner organizations through various programs, including helping eligible partners identify funding opportunities and prepare grant proposals. 

  • No. Due to resource limitations, Anike Foundation generally relies on reports submitted by partner organizations rather than conducting onsite supervision visits. 

  • No. Anike Foundation does not offer fiscal sponsorship to organizations that are not its partners. 

  • No. 

    Because our volunteers are located throughout the world, we do not conduct regular organization-wide volunteer meetings. Communication and coordination are handled primarily through email. 

International Student (OPT) Questions 

  • Yes. 

    Volunteers participating under Optional Practical Training (OPT) may use their NDA/IP agreement, signed timesheets, and other supporting documentation as evidence of volunteer service. 

  • Volunteers may use their own timesheet or Anike Foundation's timesheet template. Timesheets should be submitted periodically for verification and signature.
