Anike Foundation and Soest Third World Group Foundation Help Child Survival Aid Ghana Refurbish Library
Anike Foundation helped Child Survival Aid Ghana secure a grant from Soest Third World Group Foundation to refurbish a library for the Klagon Cluster of Schools’ students. But these organizations didn’t just refurbish a library. They introduced children in rural Ghana to a world of imagination and contributed to eliminating the disparity in educational opportunities based on economics.
In 2020, only 65% of children living in rural areas of Ghana completed primary school, and only 22% finished secondary school. When you factor in finances, the rate of completion is worse. In poorer families, only 52% graduated primary school and 9% finished secondary school, while in richer families, 86% graduated primary school and 71% finished secondary school.
The Klagon Cluster of Schools Library offers Ghanaian children the gift of books that will continue to inspire, increase knowledge, and improve reading and writing for many years to come. It also provides a place for teachers and students to gather, learn, and collaborate —regardless of where they live or their family background.
Who is Child Survival Aid Ghana?
An NGO operating in rural Ghana, Child Survival Aid Ghana (CSAG) believes children are our future and every single one of them deserves an education. They also believe that education is the key to increasing economic opportunities, creating healthier families, and empowering individuals to care for themselves, their families, and their communities.
CSAG offers free education and supplies to disadvantaged youth in rural Ghana. When given the opportunity to learn, children can lift themselves out of poverty. Education is powerful, and this is why CSAG aims to eliminate any educational disparity between urban and rural-based children.
What is the Library Project?
After months of working endless hours and conducting numerous meetings, the Klagon Cluster of Schools’ Library was successfully furnished and launched. Soest Third World Group donated ~$2,400 US dollars to renovate an empty room, purchase reading room tables, bookshelves, chairs and, of course, books. Their donation and all the hard work from Child Survival Aid Ghana brought excitement to both teachers and students, as they now have access to a fully equipped library where they can sit down comfortably and read, learn and grow. This library will continue to encourage disadvantaged children to realize their full potential.
Sustainability
The Soest donation made a big impact on Ghanaian children’s ability to study and learn. This library contributes to the improvement of youth education, and thereby has a unique opportunity to increase educational and economic opportunities and reduce poverty in rural Ghana. And there is always room for growth. More books, or even more libraries, will reach more children.
