Anike Foundation And Rwenzori Rural Health Services Secure Grant To Help The Fight Against HIV/AIDS In Uganda
People living with HIV/AIDS in rural Africa suffer from high social stigma, often limiting their educational opportunities and livelihood options. To combat this, Anike Foundation helped Rwenzori Rural Health Services obtain a grant from Foundation for Community Development and Empowerment to financially support those in need with necessary medication and food.
Who is Rwenzori Rural Health Services?
Operating in the Kasese District, Rwenzori Rural Health Services (RRHS) promotes rural health and sanitation in East Africa. With a $500 grant received from Foundation for Community Development and Empowerment, RRHS started the Enhancing Adherence for HIV Positive Persons Project.

What is the Enhancing Adherence for HIV Positive Persons Project?
Initiated to help those living with HIV/AIDS access necessary medication and nutrition, the project enabled 30 HIV-positive beneficiaries to obtain medicine and food. This included 120 kgs of maize, 120 kgs of millet, 120 kgs of beans, 60 kgs of silverfish and 90 kgs of soya, which was shared among the 30 beneficiaries.

Lessons Learned?
As with any project, we learn as we go — and the more we learn, the better our outcomes:
Small actions result in a big impact. One generous donation provided basic necessities and brought happiness to 30 people living with HIV/AIDS.
After the project’s initiation, more people affirmed their support for the initiative. This gives us optimism about growth moving forward.
Due to stigmatization and discrimination, more than 60 people living in the area are HIV positive, but they do not wish to be identified.
Final Thoughts
Everyone should have access to proper medication and basic nutrition. While the generous donation from Foundation for Community Development and Empowerment and the hard work by Rwenzori Rural Health Services positively impacted the lives of 30 people living with HIV/AIDS in Uganda, more people could use our support.
