Community Outreach

Village community outreach placements can include youth mentoring, HIV prevention and AIDS care, home visiting, sanitation and hygiene, public health, women's groups focusing on vocational skills and women's rights, and teaching modern organic farming methods, self help projects, anti-corruption workshops, sustainable business management, conducting domestic violence prevention workshops, conducting awareness gathering etc.

Community Outreach also includes home visits to elderly, disabled, and persons living with HIV/AIDS to keep company, offer relief, and assess needs. This is a good opportunity for volunteers to see the daily challenges faced by marginalized groups in Uganda. A village placement is particularly appropriate for volunteers with great ideas and enthusiasm for grassroots development. This is a real opportunity for deep cultural exchange.

All the required assistance in this program area will be given by the program manager.

Child and Community Care

This is a program that centers mainly on marginalized children/young people between 7 and 12 years of age many of which are orphans, needy or homeless.
In this program, applicants will work with orphans in orphanages, direct with communities and child care centers plus working with community child care outreach projects.

Activities include caring for children, playing with children, helping with daily chores, helping with homework, mobilizing for awareness forums and much more.

Volunteers help with feeding, organizing play, arts and crafts, hygiene and HIV/AIDS education appropriate to the children's' age level.
