ANIKE FOUNDATION HELPS PARTNER ORGANIZATION SECURE GRANT FOR BEDS & MATTRESSES AT THE RAMBIA ORPHANAGE PRIMARY SCHOOL

Beds and mattresses don’t just provide children with a good night’s sleep, they help to protect them from bug bites, parasites, and diseases such as trypanosomiasis, which is transmitted by infected tsetse flies and can be fatal.

Anike Foundation recently helped Rwenzori Mountain Baghuma Integrated Association (RAMBIA) secure a grant from eu can aid!, which provided funding for beds and mattresses for children at the RAMBIA Orphanage Care Nursery & Primary School in Uganda.

Who is RAMBIA?

RAMBIA, formed in 1993, is a volunteer organization whose mission is to fight ignorance through education, poverty through livelihood enhancement, and disease through health promotion.

In 2013, RAMBIA established the Orphanage Care Nursery & Primary School to help children orphaned by HIV/AIDS and the escalation of the Allied Democratic Forces insurgency in Western Uganda. To serve the large number of orphans in the community and remedy weaknesses in the public education system, the orphanage currently provides a quality, inclusive, and affordable education to both orphans and vulnerable children.

RAMBIA is headquartered in Uganda at Kyamakube Town Council on the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains, 320 kilometers west of the capital, Kampala.

What Did the Grant Provide?

With funding from eu can aid!, RAMBIA’s orphanage teachers and managers contracted Kthahire and Family Enterprises to supply bunkbeds and mattresses for 120 children.

Each child at the orphanage was given a bed and taught how to take care of it. Some children are still very young, and those under ten are provided a lower bed for easy access. And for those youngsters who may still wet the bed, polythene papers are provided to protect the mattresses.

The installation of beds and mattresses for each child provided a significant reduction in the spread of skin diseases, something that was previously common within the dormitories.

Final Thoughts

Financial support from eu can aid! provided 120 orphans in Uganda with the luxury of comfortable beds. This gift not only continues to offer the promise of a good night’s sleep—it also protects the children from bites, parasites, and diseases, thereby providing safer living conditions and happier dormitories.

Further donations will go towards feeding the children, providing school supplies such as uniforms and books, and constructing classrooms and dormitories.
